Smallmouth Bass Tagging Study
For the past two field seasons, the LRSA has been involved in capturing and tagging smallmouth bass in the LaHave watershed. The aim of this study is to learn more about the movement of invasive smallmouth bass within the system so that we can better plan conservation efforts for native species.
An intern of the LRSA prepares to tag a captured smallmouth bass
Twice a week in the summer months, interns of the LRSA have led groups of passionate volunteers on outings to the river. Volunteers catch fish through angling, and report to the interns and other trained members to tag the fish and record the data.
Signs placed around popular river access points indicate how to report a tagged fish
Signage has been placed near popular river access points to inform the public of the study. The signs indicate how best to report the recapture of tagged fish. Recapture data is crucial for the study, and we encourage members of the public to report any tagged fish.
