Conservation & Recovery

The salmonids of the LaHave river watershed are fighting an uphill battle against the declining state of their habitat. Through coordinated efforts such as river restoration, cold water rehabilitation, aquatic connectivity enhancement, and aquatic invasive species mitigation, the LRSA is actively fighting for the conservation of the native species of the river.

Research

While some historic data about the LaHave river and its fish exists, the system is vast, and there are big gaps in our knowledge. The LRSA regularly engages in research, either internally or through our partners, to better understand the state of the river and the immediate needs. This includes things like population estimates, predation studies, and water quality analysis.

Advocacy

The river lacks a voice of its own, and so it’s important for us to speak up on its behalf. We advocate for the river in the form of political pushes, press releases, newspaper articles, informational signs along the river, and the proper reporting of illegal activities and poaching. More advocates for the river can only be a good thing, and we encourage our membership to get involved whenever appropriate.

Community Engagement & Education

The community surrounding the LaHave has deep ties to the river, and we at the LRSA know how important it is to enhance that community connection. With a growing membership, a strong volunteer base, and a devoted board of directors, we are able to organize awareness days, informational newsletters, and opportunities on the river for volunteer engagement.
